Privacy Policy

At Findpet, accessible from findpet.com, one of our main priorities is the privacy of our visitors. This Privacy Policy document contains types of information that is collected and recorded by Findpet and how we use it.

If you have additional questions or require more information about our Privacy Policy, do not hesitate to contact us.

Consent

By using our website, you hereby consent to our Privacy Policy and agree to its terms.

Information we collect

The personal information that you are asked to provide, and the reasons why you are asked to provide it, will be made clear to you at the point we ask you to provide your personal information.

If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information about you such as your name, email address, phone number, the contents of the message and/or attachments you may send us, and any other information you may choose to provide.

When you register for an Account, we may ask for your contact information, including items such as name, company name, address, email address, and telephone number.

To help return your pet to you, we ask for your first and last name, mobile phone number and home address. We share them with shelters, veterinarians, animal control and other organizations registered on Findpet when they look up your pet's microchip or tag to return your pet. On the public page of your pet, your phone number is shown only if you choose to show it.

We may send you offers from Findpet or from our partners by email or text message, but only if you separately agree to receive them. We send offers from our partners ourselves and do not give partners your email address or mobile number. You can withdraw your consent at any time: use the unsubscribe link in any email with offers, reply STOP to a text message, or contact us. More about text messages is in Text messages (SMS) below.

When you agree to receive offers by email, we keep a record of your consent: the date and time, your account, your email address, your IP address, your browser and device type (user agent), where on our website you agreed, and the exact consent text you saw, in the language you saw it. We use this record to check your consent before we send you offers, to prove that you gave consent and to respond to legal claims. We keep it while your consent is in effect and for up to four years after it ends, for example after you unsubscribe, change your email address or delete your account. For this reason we keep it even after you delete your account, and a request to delete your personal data does not cover it until this period ends.

When you create an account on our website, we record the date and time you accepted our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy and the version of the Terms of Use you accepted.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect in various ways, including to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our website
  • Improve, personalize, and expand our website
  • Understand and analyze how you use our website
  • Develop new products, services, features, and functionality
  • Communicate with you, either directly or through service providers that work on our behalf, including for customer service, to provide you with updates and other information relating to the website, and, with your consent, for marketing and promotional purposes
  • Send you emails
  • Find and prevent fraud

Text messages (SMS)

If you check “Text me right away if someone finds my pet”, we will send text messages about your pet, for example when someone reports finding it, to the mobile number you gave us. We also send text messages that are part of a service you use, for example a link to accept a pet that a pet store or shelter transfers to you. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any message to opt out, or HELP for help. You can also turn off text messages about your pet in your profile. You do not have to agree to receive text messages to use Findpet.

We may also send text messages with offers from Findpet or from our partners, but only if you separately agree to receive marketing text messages. The “Text me right away if someone finds my pet” checkbox does not cover them. You do not have to agree to receive marketing text messages to use Findpet or to buy anything from us. When we send an offer from a partner, we send it ourselves and do not give the partner your mobile number.

When you agree to receive text messages, we keep a record of your consent: the date and time, your account, your IP address, your browser and device type (user agent), the mobile number and whether it has been confirmed, where on our website you agreed, and the exact consent text you saw, in the language you saw it. We keep this record to prove that you gave consent, as US law on text messages requires (the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, “TCPA”, and the CTIA guidelines of the wireless industry), and to respond to legal claims. Before we send text messages with offers, we also use it to check your consent. We do not use it for anything else.

We keep consent records while your consent is in effect and for up to four years after it ends, for example after you reply STOP, turn text messages off in your profile, change your mobile number or delete your account. This is how long a claim about a text message can be brought under the TCPA. For this reason we keep consent records even after you delete your account, and a request to delete your personal data does not cover them until this period ends.

We do not sell your mobile number. We do not share your mobile number or your consent to receive text messages with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes.

People who find a pet

When you scan a pet's Findpet tag, or send the form on a pet's page on Findpet, we record the time, your IP address and its approximate area, your browser and device type, an identifier from a cookie in your browser or, if you are signed in, your Findpet account, what you tap on the page (for example, the call or message buttons) and, if you allow it, the location of your device. If you contact the owner through the form, we also collect what you choose to send: your phone number, your name, your email address, your message, the photos you add, the address you enter and whether the pet may need a vet. Before we store a photo, we remove its location and other hidden details (metadata).

We send the pet's owner what you choose to send and where the pet was found (the location you shared, the address you entered or the approximate area of your IP address) by email and, if the owner gets text alerts, by text message, so that the owner can contact you and find the pet. If the pet was registered by a pet store, a shelter or another organization, we may also send that organization a copy of your message, your photos and where the pet was found, by email or text message, so that it can help return the pet. Emails to the owner and to the organization show small copies of your photos; the link to them works for 30 days. In the history of visits and scans in their account, the owner also sees when the pet's tag was scanned or its page was opened, the IP address and, if you shared it, the location. The Findpet team can also see this information, to help return the pet and to prevent abuse. We do not send you text messages, we do not add you to our mailing lists, and we do not sell this information or share it with third parties for their marketing.

We keep what you send through the form together with the details of that scan, and the owner's history of visits and scans, with no time limit, so that the owner and the Findpet team can come back to them if the pet goes missing again or a question about its return comes up. The Findpet team can hide a photo you sent, for example if it shows something private; a hidden photo no longer opens in emails or on the owner's page. To have your information deleted, contact us.
